Academic Communication and Build-up of Data and Information |

| In the
latest five years, the Center has hosted three large
international academic conference and two big national academic
conferences. It also hosts all kinds of small seminars now and
then during which the Center invites many part-time researchers,
visiting professors and renowned scholars from home and abroad
to participate and talk on the new social and economic
development of HK, Macao and PRD. Such academic activities have
greatly enhanced academic communication which has a favorable
social influence. For all these years, the Center has committed
itself to international academic communication and cooperation.
Since 2000, the Center has commissioned 12 part-time or
full-time researchers to visit the USA, Germany, France, Italy,
Japan, Canada, Korean, Singapore and Hong Kong for short-term or
long-term academic communication. At the same time, the Center
has invited 45 foreign visiting experts for short-term or
long-term academic activities which have increased the
international academic influence of the Center in studies of HK,
Macao and PRD. The Center has cooperated with Center for Asian
Studies, Hong Kong University and Center for Asian-Pacific
Studies, Chinese University of Hong Kong in academic exchange
and data sharing. |

| The
Center has sent 9 scholars to the USA, France, Germany and HK &
Macao for long-term academic communication (more than 3 months)
and 10 for short-term communication (more than one month) and 53
for short-term visit (three days and above). The Center hosts
more than 10 visiting scholars every year from abroad on
average.

| The
Center has cooperated with Asian Center of Hong Kong University,
Hong Kong-Pearl River Delta committee and Urban Plan and
Environment Administration Center of Hong Kong
University£¬Business Research Institute of Hong Kong Lingnan
University, Asian-Pacific Research Center of Chinese University
of Hong Kong and Macao Research Center of Macao University for a
long time for academic communication and cooperation. The Center
has invited Professors Huang Shaolun, Rao Meijiao, Yang Yunzhong
as visiting professors or academic consultants. |
| The
Center has worked with Hong Kong University, Hong Kong Lingnan
University, Hong Kong City University, Hong Kong 21st Century
Institute, Taiwan China Tide Foundation, Asian-Pacific
Institute, Japan WASEDA University and Social and Economic
Development Research Center, Guang Dong Provincial Government in
hosting 3 international conferences, 2 national seminars and has
published 3 paper collections. |
| The
Center has cooperated with the university library to build up a
library information center. The information center occupies an
area of 260m2 with 11,000 Chinese books, more than 6000
Chinese-English books, 106 Chinese magazines (including inter
data), and 18 English magazines. The Center spends more than ten
thousand Yuan on books every year and has brought in more than
3000 Chinese and English books. The Center has its own library
administration system which can provide search. There is also an
electronic library in the Center. |
| The
Center fronts for the electronic magazine of Great Pearl River
Delta Forum (which began publish in June, 2003 and its website
is http://www.sinoss.com/portal/webgate/_CmdJournalList). The
center also publishes Contemporary Hong Kong and Macao, and
Modern Industries of PRD with HK Productivity Council (which
registered an ISBN in October 2002.)
The Center also cooperated with Hong Kong University and
invested more than 1 million HK$ to set up the Hong
Kong-Macau-Pearl River Delta Development Information Net whose
website is
http://hkmac.zsu.edu.cn/info/index.html.
What¡¯s more, the Center has cooperated with Hong Kong
University in building up the Pearl River Delta Development
Bibliography whose website is
http://hkmac.zsu.edu.cn/library/hkdb.asp. It provides quick and
convenient searches on HK & PRD bibliography in Chinese or
English. The Center also published ¡®A Guide to Pearl River Delta
Research Bibliography¡¯ to meet the needs of scholars and
readers. Now, the Center is working with Hong Kong University to
develop the ¡®Pan-Pearl-River-Delta Information Net¡¯.
Consuls of America, France, Great Britain, Japan and Canada
have paid visit to the Center and exchange opinions on economic
cooperation, infrastructure construction and development of
regional economic integration of Hong Kong-Macao-Pearl River
Delta and Pan-Pearl River Delta. |
